Continuing Enrollment Information
Due to changes to the College's undergraduate general education requirements and changes to the nursing curriculum, new degree requirements will be required if nursing students become inactive and re-enroll on or after July 1, 2013.
What this means to you: If you become inactive on July 1, 2013 and subsequently re-enroll, courses you have taken previously may not apply to the new curriculum requirements, which can cause a delay in your degree progression and further expenditures.
The Nursing fee structure includes a policy on continuing enrollment as noted in program materials and on the Nursing tuition page. If you are an undergraduate or graduate nursing student who enrolled before July 1, 2012 and have not earned at least 3 credits toward your degree or certificate program at the College, or registered for a course or exam between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013, you will be placed on Inactive Status on July 1, 2013.
If you have completed credits elsewhere and have not yet had a transcript or test report sent to the Office of the Registrar, please do so prior to June 15, 2013 so that your record can be updated. Academic records will be reviewed again later in the year.
If you are placed on Inactive Status, to re-activate you will need to:
- complete and submit the Nursing Re-enrollment, Leave of Absence or Inactive Status form
- remit the $75 fee along with the form and, if you DO NOT live in a state with online verification of licensure information, submit a notarized copy of your current RN license valid in the U.S.
- once reactivated, make an appointment with a nursing advisor to discuss degree progression.
Online nursing courses are offered in the January, April July and October terms. General education courses (Online, Guided Study or e-Pack™) start at the beginning of every month, with registration periods as indicated on the academic calendar.
TECEP®, CLEP, and DSST exams are also readily available for undergraduate students. Information about exam options may be found in the College Catalog. Thomas Edison State College course schedules are located on the Courses & Schedules page.
If you have questions about current degree requirements, please refer to the W. Cary Edwards School of Nursing Student Handbook. Also please refer to the College Catalog and online course descriptions for course advisories and prerequisites.
