Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program

The Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program at Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey is a one-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program designed for adults who have earned a bachelor's degree (non-nursing) completed prior to admission and who are interested in becoming registered nurses.

The program prepares graduates for the National Council Licensure Exam for RNs (NCLEX). The 120-credit 2nd Degree BSN program includes 60 general education credits (earned prior to admission) and 60 credits of professional nursing courses completed full-time both online and classroom-based at Thomas Edison State College. Clinical experiences will be held at Capital Health facilities in Trenton, N.J. and Hopewell, N.J.

A criminal background check, drug screen, health and immunization verification, malpractice and health insurance, and CPR certification are required.

Applications will be accepted for the October 2013 term from candidates interested in the Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program beginning October 1, 2012. Applications are due to the Office of Admissions no later than June 15, 2013. The Accelerated BSN degree program is designed for full-time study only and due to the rigorous nature of this program, outside employment is not recommended.

Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program Highlights:

  • Classroom-based courses offered two days per week at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J. (free parking)
  • Asynchronous online courses
  • Clinical courses offered two days per week at Capital Health, a state-of-the-art, technologically advanced, Magnet-designated facility (free-parking)
  • Opportunity for employment in nursing upon graduation
  • Class size limited to 30 highly motivated adult, independent learners
  • All students receive an iPad
  • Program offered in four 12-week terms
  • No scheduled Friday classes or clinicals

Tuition:
Tuition is $29,900, made in quarterly payments. Students are billed in four quarterly installments. Students accepted into the program must make a $2,000 non-refundable deposit to confirm their space; the deposit is applied directly toward their first quarterly tuition payment.

NOTE: All tuition and fees listed here were approved in June 2012, by the Board of Trustees of Thomas Edison State College and are effective July 1, 2012. Tuition and fees are subject to change. Tuition and fees for courses and examinations for the nursing and general education requirements taken at other institutions will be the student's responsibility.
