Air Force General Education Mobile (GEM) Program
Complete Your General Education Requirements Through the Air Force GEM Program
Thomas Edison State College is a participating institution in the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) General Education Mobile (GEM) program.
The College’s participation in the program enables airmen to complete up to 15 credits of their general education requirements in a single block of five online courses at Thomas Edison State College that may be applied directly to a student’s Associate in Applied Science degree at CCAF or a degree at Thomas Edison State College. By earning the general education requirements in a single block of courses from one institution, students will benefit from greater continuity and be able to complete their degree more quickly. With online courses, students can continue their education without interruption, regardless of whether they go on temporary duty or deploy.
Enroll in the GEM Program using these five easy steps:
STEP 1: Select Thomas Edison State College (TESC) as your GEM Institution
You must designate Thomas Edison State College as your GEM institution by filling out a Course Completion Package in the Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) in the AF Portal.
STEP 2: Complete the TESC Application
If you are not already a student with TESC, you must apply to the College.
If you are only taking GEM courses to complete your CCAF degree and do not wish to pursue a degree with TESC, select the “Non-Matriculated Student Application”. In Section 3. Supplemental Information select “GEM- General Education Mobile (USAF only)” under the Military Information section.
If you wish to pursue a degree with TESC, in addition to taking your GEM courses to complete your CCAF degree, select the “Undergraduate Application”. Then select “GEM- General Education Mobile (USAF only) under the dropdown menu in the Partner Affiliation section. On the next page of the application, select the degree program that you wish to pursue with TESC. Please note that degree-seeking students will be assessed a $75 application fee. Upon completing the application online, you will receive an email from the College with a link to pay the application fee through a secure website. You may also call 888-442-8372 to pay your fee over the phone.
Once you receive your acceptance letter from TESC via email with your student ID#, you may register for courses.
STEP 3: Register for Courses
A schedule of available classes approved for the GEM program can be found on the AFVEC.
After you have chosen your course(s), you will need to register for them through TESC’s Online Student Services Portal - http://www.tesc.edu/current-students/online-student-services.cfm
STEP 4: Apply and Submit Tuition Assistance Forms
Request Tuition Assistance (TA) online in the AFVEC.
Once your TA has been approved, email a copy to firstname.lastname@example.org
OR fax to 609-984-7143.
