Request for Course Extension for Military Students

Thomas Edison State College requires that military students adhere to the same academic regulations and policy as all other students, but do recognize the unique circumstances involved in military service. For a course extension to be granted, the College requires that students have completed at least 50 percent of all required course work (as certified by their mentor). Exceptions of this rule can be made for military students only when they have been “forward deployed” as defined below:

Forward Deployed: Whenever a service member is assigned away from their home station/home port, outside of the geographical limits of the United States of America and its territories, for more than 10 consecutive days. Such assignment may result from temporary additional duties (TAD/TDY), special assignment, or unit movement/deployment in support of operations assigned by either national or service specific command authority.

This definition specifically excludes temporary assignments or deployments for instruction or training which are part of routine, recurring, and scheduled training plans of the uniformed services. The exclusion applies regardless of whether or not the training assignment was voluntary.

If you are currently “forward deployed” (as defined above), the requirement to be 50 percent complete with all course requirements and the payment of the Extension Fee may be waived. The links below will connect you to the appropriate form. Please click the appropriate form and follow the relevant instructions.

Non-Deployed Military Student: Subject to Regulations, Policies, and Fees.
