Testing Arrangements

Online Testing Option
Starting with the January 2014 term, you may take your TECEP exam online (except ENC-102), using the College’s Online Proctoring Service (OPS). By choosing this option you can test in the comfort of your own home, while being proctored in real time. To use the OPS service, you will need a webcam, a computer with a microphone and speakers, and a reliable high-speed Internet connection.

  1. First, register for your TECEP.
  2. Next, schedule an online testing session with ProctorU, our OPS service. You will need to create a user name and password before scheduling an appointment.
  3. Be sure to select the correct term for your test date when you schedule your OPS appointment.  Your test link will not open if you select a test date that falls after the last day of your term.

Pen/Paper Testing Option
You can take any TECEP® exam in paper format by finding a proctor/location that meets the guidelines below.

  1. First, register for your TECEP.
  2. Next, schedule a test with a proctor by submitting the Proctor Request Form that is included with your test confirmation email. This email will be sent 2-3 business days after you register.
  3. The Office of Test Administration (OTA) will email you when your proctor has been approved and mail your exam.
  4. Call your proctor to set up a mutually convenient time and date to take your TECEP®. Be sure to confirm that your proctor has received the test before going to your test site.

Pen/paper test guidelines: You can take TECEP exams at any accredited college or university or at any public library that offers the service. We recommend you find a location close to your home or work so you have easy access on the day of the test. Contact a local college or university and find a full-time member of the testing office or a full-time professor or professional staff member. Adjunct and part-time professors do not qualify. Contact your local public library to find a full-time librarian.

We do not send exams to employers, corporate training offices, supervisors, elementary/high school librarians, members of the clergy, family members or friends.

Thomas Edison State College reserves the right to require modification of your proposed proctoring arrangements.
