Earning Credit for Coast Guard Training

Coast Guard members can earn up to 39 credits for Coast Guard and Maritime Law Enforcement Academy training that can be applied directly toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or a Bachelor of Science degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. This includes 12 credits that can be applied to general education requirements and 6 credits to the area of study (major) of either degree program.

Thomas Edison State College has developed degree roadmaps that detail how training is applied to the degree programs for students who have completed Coast Guard Basic Training and have an occupation of Chief Boatswain’s Mate or Chief Marine Science Technician. Additional credit may be awarded for graduates of the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy.  For more information, follow the links below.
