Online Certificate in the Tao of Legal Writing
This course is designed for law students, paralegals and practitioners. The word Tao translates into "the way" and the aim of this course is to teach the way of legal writing in the Taoist style. Legal writing becomes easier when the writer works with, rather than resists, what already exists in terms of expectations, structures and resources. Traditional legal writing can be rigid and rule-bound, yet writing of all kinds should invoke a natural flow of sensation, experience and knowledge. The Tao of Legal Writing reveals a philosophy of writing that opens, explores and develops the natural flow of the legal writer’s ideas in creating and composing their work. The course will provide a refresher of the basic skills of legal research and writing but is really designed to make the legal writer a better writer, one who thinks differently about the craft, one who, as in the Tao's "central figure", becomes more in harmony with the way things naturally are and whose writing reflects that harmony.
This course begins on Nov. 16, 2009.
