Paralegal Studies Program Requirements

Get Started Today!
Register online

Students entering the Paralegal Studies program are required to demonstrate a level of oral and written communications skills and the ability to think critically. These skills are demonstrated by having earned an associate degree or higher or through several years of work experience where these skills have been acquired.
Upon registration, students are provided with a book list for reading on the seven course topics: paralegalism, contracts, torts, legal research and writing, technology in the law, litigation and administrative law. During the 45-week online program students are expected to work independently through the reading and participate in online discussions with other students in the program. The course mentor, an expert in the specific area of the law being studied, guides the discussion and evaluates each student’s progress.

The online delivery of the program requires that students have access to a computer and are proficient at using e-mail, communicating online, learning new software programs and conducting online research. The online format ensures that students have the most current information in the paralegal field as they learn the skills needed to succeed in today’s increasingly high-tech paralegal profession.

To earn the Professional Certificate in Paralegal Studies, students are expected to receive a “P” grade in each of the seven courses. Students work through all seven courses within the 45 weeks; however, exceptions can be made and the program can be extended with the permission of the program director.
