Definition
Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Business and Management, the Assistant Dean is responsible for organizing, planning, and coordinating curriculum development and implementation, recruitment, strategy development and implementation, research and development activities for the School of Business and Management.  The Assistant Dean works as a liaison with the other schools and other administrative offices to facilitate the goals and objectives of the School of Business and Management.

Examples of Work

  • Preparing reports for administration and external regulatory agencies
  • Serving as liaison to other college departments and administrative offices
  • Representing the College and the School through committees, meetings and conferences
  • Monitoring Datatel for course and program maintenance, report generation and database accuracy
  • Conducting research on student concerns and recommending the appropriate course of action to resolution
  • Gathering data and conducting research for various academic programs and establishing curriculum needs, staffing levels and budgeting requirements
  • Locating properly credentialed mentors as needed for courses, Prior Learning Assessment, Demonstrations of Currency and other area, and coordinating with the other schools to improve systems and generate reports
  • Coordinating Assessment activities across the degree programs in the School of Business and Management
  • Managing publication for academic programs and monitoring the website and program materials to insure currency of information about the School of Business and Management
  • Participates in recruitment events and other activities as appropriate to support enrollment growth in the School of Business and Management
  • Managing other related projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the School of Business and Management

Knowledge and Competencies

  • Knowledge of the philosophy and practices of higher education and familiarity with the standards, curriculum and policies pertaining to adult learning
  • Knowledge of the current issues and trends in adult learning, distance learning and online education
  • Ability to work with professional and support staff, and the community-at-large
  • Ability to work at a distance with students, mentors and other professionals
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, synthesize information and prepare reports
  • Experience in computer-based distance education


Requirements

Education:  Master’s degree, Doctorate preferred in business/management related area. 

Experience: Minimum of four years requirement teaching and/or administration at accredited institution of higher education.  Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college.) A Ph.D. or an Ed.D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience

Description:
The Executive Assistant to the Provost reports to the Provost and Academic Vice President and will work closely, collaboratively, and confidentially in an executive assistant capacity.  Additionally, the Executive Assistant will interface with the Executive Vice Provost, Vice Provosts, Deans and other members of the leadership team reporting to the Provost.  The individual in this position cultivates and maintains strong professional relationships with key personnel in all areas of the college.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage issues identified by the Provost or designee related to the New Jersey Commission of Higher Education and the Academic Issues Committee of the NJ Council of Presidents. Manage the process for academic approvals with the above referenced groups working cooperatively with Deans and other academic affairs staff as appropriate.

  • Coordinate and manage the process of academic policy review and dissemination 
  • Maintain an accurate and current archive of academic policies
  • Coordinate publication of the major publications for the Academic Affairs Division and the maintenance and update of web pages
  • Responsible for coordinating and responding to all student appeals and concerns addressed to the Provost’s Office
  • Research and author papers in response to critical College and division issues and policy matters as assigned
  • Create public presentations as needed
  • Manage the internal tracking of assignments for action and communication for major issues crossing areas for which the Provost or designee is the lead
  • Manage and create materials in response to requests on behalf of the Executive Vice Provost, in collaboration with appropriate staff
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Executive Vice Provost
  • Ensure that project target dates and/or deadlines are met and resolves problems which may arise and refers critical delays to the executive official
  • Assist in the development and implementation of measures to ensure that directives of the provost are properly carried out by the appropriate organizational unit and direct proper assignment and management of such measures
  • Acting for the provost, interview visitors concerned with division or College projects, explain the position of the division, and advise the provost on matters requiring personal attention
  • Evaluate data and prepares reports containing findings and recommendations for the review, information and assistance of the executive officer
  • Supervise the establishment of administrative procedures required by new academic policies
  • Draft correspondence in the course of official duties
  • Serves as Secretary for the Academic Council.

Qualifications

Education:  Masters or other professional degree from an accredited college or university required; doctorial degree preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of four years experience at an administrative level in a college or university in areas such as planning, organizing, staffing, reporting, and budgeting or in assisting an executive with program development and implementation or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority. 

The preferred candidate must possess or be able to quickly obtain a full understanding of Thomas Edison State College organizational structures, policies and procedures; emerging issues in higher education, especially as they impact adult learners.  Exceptionally strong writing and verbal skills; effective interpersonal skills, especially working in a collaborative team environment and demonstrated expertise in working with faculty, staff and students representing diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Design and Development, the Instructional Technology Specialist is responsible for performing duties required as outlined below and performs related work as required.

Examples of Work:

MULTIMEDIA AND COURSE  DESIGN

  • Develops multimedia course elements as needed
  • Analyzes course content and determines best media rich content delivery method
  • Investigates, evaluates and implements new course delivery modalities
  • Complete multimedia design projects, working in cooperation with instructional designers and other College units
  • Works with other college units to implement improved Blackboard data collection systems
  • Revises existing courses and materials to include multimedia components to enhance student learning
  • Evaluates multimedia software products

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with instructional designers as a team
  • Produce clear, detailed, and accurate correspondence as needed
  • Maintain complete files on courses and projects, both electronic and paper
  • Prepare in a timely fashion reports including quarterly reports, workflow analyses, and reports for special ad hoc committees as required
  • Coordinate with other unit employees to provide for efficient and effective development of course materials
  • When and where appropriate represent the College to outside audiences
  • Work with Instructional Services Coordinator and her staff to ensure comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date list of textbooks and materials for all courses each semester
  • Serves on College committees as assigned
  • Other duties as specified by the Director of Instructional Design and Development

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.  Experience in using a course management system such as Blackboard or WebCT.  Knowledge of HTML, PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, Flash, Lectora and other multimedia authoring tools preferred.

Requirements:
Education: Masters degree preferred or Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years experience in publishing, editing, instructional design or post secondary teaching.  Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute indicated experience on a year-for-year-basis.

Title: Senior Research Analyst

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of Institutional Research and Outcomes Assessment, the Senior Research Analyst will provide leadership and expertise in technical functions in support of strategic planning, institutional research initiatives, and quality assurance efforts.  This position is responsible for creating and maintaining data integrity and database structures to support the Division of Planning and Research’s institutional planning functions and institutional effectiveness processes and assessments. 

Responsibilities and Examples of Work:

  • Develops analytical structures to measure and inform key quality assurance measures
  • Responds to specific research questions generated within the College or externally
  • Develops and maintains the data warehouse for the Division
  • Performs routine and ad hoc data collection
  • Conducts analytical studies and reports
  • Develops and maintains interactive and/or web-based dissemination tools (e.g. dashboard, website, etc.) for various constituencies
  • Assists the Director in conceptualizing and developing papers and presentations for internal and external audiences
  • Works closely with Management Information System staff, the Registrar’s Office, as well as with other departments and divisions at the College

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient with database structures and development
  • Programming and query experience in Datatel/Colleague or other relational database environments
  • Demonstrated experience in data warehouse development and maintenance
  • Significant experience with database design and relational databases
  • Skilled with identifying, implementing, and/or facilitating web-based interactive tools
  • Must possess advanced skills in using software applications specifically including SPSS and Microsoft Office (e.g., EXCEL, ACCESS, PowerPoint)
  • Should embrace and enjoy a strong collaborative work approach

Requirements:
Education:  Candidate must possess a Master’s degree in computer/information science, social science, educational research, business management, or closely related area of study.

Experience: Three years of professional experience in institutional research and/or information systems is essential.

Title:             Library Technologist/Project Specialist

Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience

Description: 
Reporting to the Associate State Librarian for Library Development, the person in this position will also be expected to maintain regular communication with the Director of the State Library’s Information Technology Department. Responsible for all technology-related presentations on behalf of the State Library at meetings and conferences both statewide and nationally.  Required to represent the State Library on technology-related committees and report back to the Bureau as needed. Initial technology consultations with libraries regarding the Jersey Connect statewide technology initiative will be required to determine their needs; reports will be made on a regular basis to the Directors of both the Library Development Bureau and the Information Technology Department. Coordinates programs and initiatives focusing on access to the Internet in public libraries, including state library supported e-mail and Internet accounts for public libraries, and serves as state E-Rate Coordinator. Work with librarians on appropriate technologies to purchase for specific tasks and provide training in such. Assist libraries with technology planning and approve technology plans for the e-rate process.

Education and Experience: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year institution and at least five years experience working in the field of information technology in a library environment, OR Master’s degree in library and information science and eligible for New Jersey Professional Librarian Certification and at least five years experience working in the field of information technology in a library environment. Valid NJ driver’s license for travel around the state.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge of the issues facing libraries in regards to information technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and conduct training sessions
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments
  • Good working knowledge of networking, application development principles, IT services and trends.

Title:  Urban Libraries and Adult Services Project Specialist
  

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience (starting salary at least $70k)

Description:
Reporting to the Associate State Librarian for Library Development, the person in this position will function as the project specialist for the State Library’s services to the urban library community and the new area of service to older adults. Responsibilities include liaison duties with the New Jersey Library Association’s Urban Libraries and Special Population sections; grant-writing and administration of grant programs to fund programs of importance to these communities; providing continuing education programs of statewide impact for librarians serving these communities/constituencies; consulting assistance to urban libraries; representing New Jersey on the American for Libraries Council’s Lifelong Access Libraries Initiative project; investigating and recommending strategies to address library services to the poor, library services to immigrants and aliens and priorities identified in the document New Jersey’s Urban Libraries: challenges and strategies for change.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in library and information science;  Eligible for New Jersey Professional Librarian certification;
Minimum five years experience in an urban public library and/or minimum five years experience serving older adults, preferably in a public library setting

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge of issues facing urban libraries and/or active older adults
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and conduct training sessions
